SPRING IN MY CORNER OF THE WORLD

I love walking around the yard when the grass is beginning to turn green, the Azalea bushes are blossoming and the birds are nesting... 

A lovely bench on which to meditate and survey my kingdom... 

And watching the beautiful Great Egret that comes to fish every day.  Life is good....

Today the Nuthatch couple is settled in and protecting their house from the squirrel who seems to be bent on menacing them today.  The Nuthatch both kept a swaying motion in unison looking at the squirrel, perhaps a warning to keep him away as he left after awhile.

Mama squirrel is a rascal alright!  The Azalea bushes are blooming more and more every day.  I wish they could last forever...

A LITTLE SUNSHINE AT LAST!

So happy to see glimpses of sunshine with all of the rain we have been having and though the skies are sunny today, they are predicting rain part of every day for this coming week!

Here is the rascal squirrel that ruined my bird feeder.  She is a Mama Squirrel and has lived in the tree in the back yard for 7 yrs. that we have lived in this house and probably many more-ha!  I have a new feeder but I still am blackmailed to give her peanuts so she will not bother the new feeder.  

 Sunshine on the lake yesterday, what a joy!  The lake is "cleaning itself" as hubby used to tell me.  The dead aquatic plants float to the top and eventually disappear all together.

The tiered pot still blooms and though the Marigold and Begonia are waning in the beginning of fall, still provide that happy burst of color I so enjoy from my window...


My daughter and fiancee cut the grass for me yesterday in view of the impending rain and I am so grateful to them as I no longer can do it.  And thanks to my loving grandson, who cuts it for me whenever he can.  I am well taken care of for the lawn at present :)
All of the rain brings colonies of mushrooms however and before getting mowed yesterday, I took pictures of the fairy-like villages that popped up overnight once again!  I was sure a Leprechaun would jump out at any minute - Ha!

A Bit 'O' Pink and A Summer Kitchen, Birds

Sorry for the blurring as I took the picture through the den window-ha!

This is my Summer Kitchen.  Just a little change of candle color and tablecloth refreshes the large kitchen and gives it bright color! 

Looking at my kitchen from the step down den through the French Doors.

And this is more detail of a two-yard piece of cotton print that I have used for my watermelon tablecloth.  I learned this trick from my Aunt who always made seasonal tablecloths with fabric.  Very economical and recyclable when you want to make something else!

A hen soup Tureen and red candles bring out the colors of the watermelon print.

These 2 watermelon slice coasters are all I have left of a set I bought many years ago.  They are appliqued onto a quilted square with machine stitch.  I should try to make some more.  The seeds are embroidered.

This is a marble watermelon paperweight that makes a nice accent in any room but I am using it for my summer kitchen look.

This is my kitchen cart full of my favorite things.  The little towel holder is one I copied from a catalog.  Hubby cut out the shape and attched the dowel and I hand painted it with apples several years ago.  A vintage apron is hanging on the dowel...



This is how it looks from the front and is near the table.

Last but not least, I was able this unusual sight of a Blue Jay AND a Cardinal sharing the Bradford Pear Tree branches in the back yard!  I love their colors and so happy I was able to snap a few pictures before they parted!

My heart to yours...

Loving the onset of Fall!

Just loving the cool mornings and even cooler evenings of the Fall season!  We can open the windows in the mornings and we can use a quilt to sleep at night-what more could we ask for!  Some leaves are beginning to fall and the Autumn colors are kissing the earth with golden tones!  And thus a poem is born......
                  Autumn

Basking in Summer's afterglow
Autumn approaches ever so slow
Kissing the earth with golden tones
And scenting the air with evergreen cones.

Bass are still jumpin' in the little pond
Catching dragonflies all around.
The Mums are blooming red and gold
And the morning air is almost cold.

Leaves are turning yellow and red
Adorning the lawn and flowerbed.
The days are shortening hour by hour
The sunsets richer but shorter by far.

Such a warm and colorful time of the year
A last splash of color before Winter drear
A welcome sight to one and all
Loving the changes that come with Fall!

The woods are still full of beautiful wildflowers, just love this picture hubby took of a flower on a trailing vine...

This massive cluster of berries was on the walking trail.  The clusters were as large as basketballs!  I could not identify what they were.



We always request this spot right across from the lake.  We can look out of our door and kitchen window and see it.  So peaceful and serene.

More Friday Feathered friends!

I usually share photos of our birds and wildlife on Kerrie's Korner but we had so many great pictures in the last 2 days that I decided to share some here as well.  This squirrel is hilarious, keeps us laughing all the time.  He eats grapes that are in the suet cage so we put Vaseline on the crook and he slid down!  He took over one of the birdhouses making the whole large enough for his body to fit.  We are letting he/she stay there though, as maybe it is a mother who is looking for a good nesting spot.  We hope you enjoy these photos.

 

And Isabella cannot be left out wearing her necklace--it's a girl thing-LOL!
