King Fisher and Chihuahua

The large Kingfisher comes almost at dusk each night and sits on the branch of this old Bradford Pear tree.  He perches there until a fish he spies and then he dives down and never comes up empty!

He is much more colorful than I could capture in the waning day's light.  But always a thrill to see for me!
And Lilly, tired from play, sits on my lap while I am knitting the hooded sweater for my Great Granddaughter to be :)  God is so good, isn't he?  I see his beauty everywhere.

I hope you are enjoying this fall day wherever you may be.  If you have time, please visit my other blogs.  Links are in the sidebar and they have new posts today as well.

Nuthatch Behavior

Nuthatch behavior as well as all the bird couples I study in my back yard are all the same when selecting a house.

The male selects the home he wishes the female to share with him  and then encourages her to look the place over and see if she will accept it.
She leaves, he peaks inside again and wonders why she does not find this one satisfactory-ha!

I am fascinated that this is almost October and not nesting season so I am speculating that he merely wants a nightly place to roost with his mate and she is being fussy.... What do you think?

I have Little Lilly with me now and it helps a lot with my loneliness.  She makes me laugh and loves to sit on my lap as I type, good choice, Big Smile on my face.

This Years Babies all Grown up!

Here are the Canadian Geese babies all grown up!  I have loved watching their progress from gawky, cute little fledglings to beautiful adults from spring til now.
They come to the little lake/pond often in a large group to dunk and eat and preen. They will fly North for the winter but will be back in spring to their birthplace to regenerate and bear new babes.  It is a remarkable life cycle that I am privileged to witness right in my own back yard year after year.

The chairs are still empty and yesterday was sweet Bill's 73rd birthday.  I wrote poems to him in heaven...

Thank you for coming and do come again soon.  Love your visits and comments, they make my days...

My Journey as ONE

Hi Sweet friends!  I am 3 months out from losing my love and life partner, my husband Bill.  He was the sweetest, kindest most loving person that I have ever known.  We met when I was in high school and his sis brought me home for supper on the school bus.  It was love at first sight and 2 yrs. later we were married.  It was a wonderful life for 54 years of knowing and 52 years of marriage to my Guy.  The lonely journey now as one is very hard and though only 3 months have passed, It seems like forever.  I am stronger every day though and find the smallest problems the most disheartening.  Like putting a new screen in the back storm door, edging the lawn, getting a ground water pump primed to water the lawn, etc, etc.

I am helped by daily affirmations from the Funeral Home that handled cremation arrangements.  They e-mail thoughts and exercises for me to do in my journal each day until I stop it for a full year.  I find this comforting and look forward to the e-mail every day.  I am getting out more and working spasmodically subbing at the doc's office and doing alterations in my home for neighbors.  I cry less and smile more at memories when we were two instead of one.
Taking baby steps forward...

Enjoying working in the yard and the view from my den window like this bunny munching on the fallen seeds from the bird feeder.

Trips to beautiful Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet SC.  This park is only 10 minutes away from my home and I am truly blessed to be so near to it!  For more photos taken last Saturday eve go to Kerrie's Korner SC

The Canadian Geese babies are quite large now and are in what I call the Gawky Teen stage-ha!

I keep my journal going, one of many and writing my feelings and wonderful memories keeps me busy.  So I feel I am making progress.

Finally watched the DVD of "The Help" and loved it as much as the book.  I recommend it highly.  Thanks for coming, you are always welcome here.  For a Christian Message please go to Kerrie's Home Journal.

Fall Robins

Some of this year's young robins were bathing in the birdbath a few days ago.  They are so sweet!  Hubby captured them in photos.  They were having a good old time enjoying the warm temps here in SC.  We have Robins all year round here, some migrating, some just staying.  I love seeing them, such a treat in November!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year with family and friends making memories... To see one of our silly traditions, pop over to Kerrie's Korner, SC Thanks!

Thrush Thrashing.....

THIS MORNING'S VISITOR WAS A LARGE THRUSH WHO WAS THRASHING ABOUT IN THE BIRDBATH, SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH!
He was thrashing about so much there were dropplets of water flying everywhere and I could not grab my camera fast enough to start snapping-ha!

He was really enjoying himself and then flew to the little flowerbed trim to sit and dry.  As you can see, he flew from there to the tree as I was snapping.

It looks as if he gave a thrust with his little legs as he rose in the air-ha!  He had a successful launch.
Then in the afternoon the Canadian Goose Family came by to visit.  I have posted pictures of them on Kerrie's Korner SC blogsite if you would like to see.
Thanks so much for coming today and come back again soon!  We appreciate your visits and comments very much!

Finding a Blue Bird of Happiness

THE BLUE BIRDS HAVE RETURNED AND ARE LOOKING FOR THAT JUST RIGHT BIRDHOUSE TO RAISE THIS YEAR'S NESTLINGS IN.

Scoping it out from the branch above, the male looks for his mate who is too quick for me to take her picture as she scurries from feeder to feeder.

This looks pretty good, nice roof, free rent....
Okay, just like a woman, which way did she go, I want her to see this one before somebody else beats us to it!!
Ahhh, ya just gotta love Spring!! What's not to like??  Thanks so much for coming by today, we love having you!  It is Sunny and chilly in SC this morning.  Beautiful!  To hear and see a beautiful rendition of Joyce Kilmer's Trees, visit our Christian blog at Kerrie's Home Journal today.

BLUE BIRDS I MUST WRITE A BOOK

The Blue Birds in our back yard have been simply amazing this summer! It all started when I took a decorative non-functional birdhouse from inside and hung it outside on a tree in our yard. The squirrels thought it was quite nice and tried to get inside by enlarging the hole. They chewed a lop-sided hole big enough to get inside but then declined to live there finding the inside too small. Of course we thought no one would be looking to settle there since the hole was much too large to attract little song birds, let alone the Blue Birds, who have been long touted as persnickety about their digs. To our amazement, a couple checked it out for several days and after the male's persistant encouragement, the female accepted the unsightly home. The nesting was successful and 4 little ones grew and flew from the nest. As soon as this was done, my husband quickly created a replacement with the "correct size hole" according to print.
Again, after much coaxing by the male, the female accepted the new apartment and they busily set about gathering decor of leaves, lint, pine needles and their own feathers to swaddle the eggs she was to lay. However, the first babies decided not to leave all at once and came back frequently to get fed by Mom and Dad. Dad was always the one to give in and feed the teenagers. One is pictured at the right sharing the birdbath with a Cardinal. He still has his little camouflage feathers on his shoulders and head with the wonderful blue already established in his wings and tail.

(Picture above left is of the teens roosting on top of the house waiting for a handout) DBL Click for enlargements.

We went camping for 10 days and when we arrived home, the new fledgelings were poking their little heads out of the door with wide open mouths. Blue Bird fathers are the most wonderful fathers, feeding them constantly. My hubby is like a kid in a candy shop and has taken a large number of pictures in the last 2 days of the beloved family. I shall have to continue in a new post when I download the great pictures he took today.
This picture is of Mama and Papa leaving to find food.
I have added Feed the fish-click on the picture to feed them - fun!
