BUTTERFLY SATURDAY

We have a Lantana bush in the front yard where an old leaning Maple used to be.  We cut it down in the fall and it winters over.  Each Spring it sends up the most beautiful green shoots of leaves and we cut away the last remaining dead wood.  It grew exceptionally large this year!  It has bright orange and yellow blossoms and the butterflies adore it!  They were out there this morning just kissing each blossom and taking the sweetness away with them.  We both were out there snapping like crazy!  Bill's camera is better than mine and his stopped the rapid wing movement in its tracks.  Mine is not that quick.

I could not identify this butterfly but he resemble both the kite Swallowtail and the Tortoise.

I could ask my 7-year-old grandson. He seems to know all the butterflies and has quite an affinity with them. He grabs them gently by the legs as they fly by, communicates with them, then lets them go. I have never seen anything like that, nor has anyone else we know. He does not touch their wings or hurt them in any way, but catches them ever so gently with his thumb and forefinger. We figure he will probably grow up to be an entomologist!

What gorgeous photographs. I love lantana, it is such a robust plant. Have you seen the all-red lantana? Very lovely.

I love butterflies. Where we live is on the way for the Monarchs to overwinter.
