Rebecca and Rachael are Jim's daughters.  They are beautiful.  And of course Rosemary is too and Seth, my only Grandson, so handsome! :)

Rachael and her Grandma, Martha, Jim's Mom  We had a wonderful day.  I was dreading it without my Bill for the first time but we made new memories and as you can see, everyone had a smiley day.  Something interesting happened though, when I turned on the computer yesterday morn, I went to my picture file and all the pictures of Bill in past Thanksgiving came up instead of the whole picture file!  When I told my daughter Barbara about it, she said the same thing happened to her!  So we feel Bill greeted us both :)  Hoping your day was wonderful, too.  Praying for all those who have lost a loved one this year and it is your first big holiday without them, like me.  Wishing you love and peace.

Nothing like a 50th H.S. Reunion!

  What a wonderful week we had spending 6 days on the Lake in our hometown of Auburn, NY!  (for Owasco Lake pictures go to our Kerrie's Korner, SC site at  http://kerrieskorner.blogspot.com/ thanks!)
   We left SC on Tuesday.  We made a bed in the backseat for my hubby so he could lie down while I drove.  We had 856 miles to go.  We stayed over near Carlyle, PA and were pleased with how far we got the first day.  The next day we arrived at Owasco Lake, Auburn, NY about 2:00 p.m. where our dearest old friends met us and showed us around the Lake house that their daughter owns.  They generously offered it to us for the week of the High School reunion we were attending on Saturday the 31st.  It was my 50th!  Where had all the years gone?  Once together, we were all teens again and much giggling and laughing went on.  Everyone looked wonderful for our ages and more came to this one with spouses than at the 45th one!  Hubby was able to last the 3 hours and took pictures of all of the attendees for me to treasure.  I will make a scrapbook just of this reunion and our stay at the beautiful Lake House on Owasco Lake.  When we were dating, this was our romantic spot on the opposite shore.

Trying to get a bunch of Senior teens together for a class picture was like trying to round up a bunch of wild Indians!  So much laughing and visiting was going on that it took several tries to get even one picture where you could see everyone-it was a hoot!  Everyone had so much fun and all the years melted away.  We were all just kids again.

This is a picture of my hubby and his sister Nancy who I met in tenth grade.  Nancy invited me home for supper.  I rode home with her on the school bus.  I met her brother when I walked in the front door and it was love at first sight!And the rest is 50 yrs (52 counting the school years) of love and happiness!!

And this is my great friend, Anna.  We met when we were 12 and started high school together in the fall of 1955.  We raised our kids together and have been close and loving friends for all these years.  I treasure Anna and her husband.  Their daughter is the owner of the Lake house.  And we will always be grateful to them all for giving us such a wonderful memory....

Thanks to all our friends and family who made our visit so wonderful.  Our Son and his family and several friends and relatives came to visit.  It was wonderful for us both.  We will probably not be able to make the trip again with Bill's health so precarious but we will always have these precious memories, just like the song....

50th WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!

We had a wonderful time! Friends in the last picture came from our home town, 856 miles away to be here!  Our daughters and their families as well as Bill's sister and huband all helped to put the whole party together and did a wonderful job.  Because I wanted to make food, too, they let me put together the veggie trays, etc and Bill and I really enjoyed doing that.  My Oldest daughter put together a picture presentation from our Wedding up to the present, with a music background and notes.  It was wonderful.  We want to thank everyone that made it happen and everyone who came (54).  It will make a wonderful memory for the rest of our lives.  God Bless and Love from we two, Bill and Kerrie a.k.a. "Oldly Weds" - ha!

          This is a treasured picture of my Dad's family approximately in 1918.  His sister Anne is sitting between him and his brother John sitting on the lawn.  Behind him is his sister Catherine, who was called "Babe" and next to her is his sister Helen (Nellie) in her habit.  Her vow name is Sister Teresina.  Sister was home for a visit and as nuns always traveled in twos, she has a companion with her, the taller Nun.  I do not know her name unfortunately.  The stoic looking woman on the right is their mother, Catherine (Kate).  I also cannot identify the young man to the left of Babe.  But I will check with my brother from O'Hearns Histories to see if he can tell me.  "Nellie" was of small stature, was fiesty, and had a wonderful sense of humor.  She lived to be in her eighties and had that sparkle in her eyes to the very end.  Confined to a hospital bed at the Mother House in Roschester, NY, my husband and I visited her there several times before her death.  She did not like the confinement of the bed and told us how she had crawled out over the bottom if she wanted because the side rail was too high!!  I loved that!  She was a kindergarten teacher for 65 years at Holy Family School in Auburn, NY before her retirement and for that alone she should have a gold medal.  I wish I had known her when she was young and what motivated her to join the convent.  She loved her life there and Dad still called her "Nellie" as a brother would, whenever she came to our house.  We all loved Sister Teresina and I felt I should laud her this Sunday.  I hope you enjoy the picture and a glimpse into her life here.

IT'S SATURDAY!!

IT'S SUNNY SATURDAY here in Garden City, SC!  It is 12:20 p.m. and it is 88 degrees.  That is your weather report - ha!  Yesterday, I introduced my cartoon, "Pooky's Grandma."  In the 1970's, I created Grandma when I worked as a sketch and layout artist in the Display department for our local newspaper in Auburn, NY.  Every week, they would have me draw three cartoons for the Erma Bombeck column and they would pick the one they liked the best and publish it along with her column.  My brother, Joseph, was a very good cartoonist and I remember asking him at the time to help me out with ideas for easy sketches of people in action.  He made drawing their limbs, their bodies and their expressions look so easy!  So I practiced a lot and came up with some pretty good little figures for the column and it was a success. 
           While doodling at my desk, I created "Pooky's Grandma".  I fashioned her after my own Mom with her little purse always in her hand, not unlike Estelle Getty in the Golden Girls.  Mama loved hats and always wore a dress or skirt and blouse with a little strand of pearls at her neck.  Her figure rounded out in her late 50's and 60's and she was a huggable 4'11".  Everyone loved her and in my mind's eye, I created Pooky's Grandma in her loving likeness.  She was really loved by everyone and she was always smiling.  She was not afraid to express her views and I find as I am aging, I grow more bold, too-ha!  So I am dusting off Grandma in her cartoon form and bringing her back to life on my blogs.  I hope you will enjoy her.  She is in development so be patient with me.
            I have a niece, Melanie, who just graduated high school and is going on to college.  She is perhaps the most talented young person I have seen who can draw.  Her perception of light, depth and attention to detail is unsurpassed.  I encourage her all that I can and wish her a successful career in her art endeavor.  Way to go Mel!

My Sister Mary...

I have been gathering photos for my Autobiography and my brother-in-law, Mary's husband, has provided me with a wealth of photos including this one. I am delighted.  I had never seen this particular picture before.

I have many photos in baggies when they should be in albums!  So I am trying to organize them better in shoeboxes by date and separated by index cards.  At least they will be easier to work with once I am ready to put them into albums or scrapbooks.  I also keep shorthand books as journals or diaries as they are easy to handle and I can even write on them while sitting in bed.  I record poems, the days happenings and my little sketches to be enjoyed by my children and grandchildren some day.  A shorthand book will hold a year or more of memories. 

   If you have photos that are laying around, at least take your favorites and put them in scrapbook if nothing else so that they are protected and preserved for future generations.  We nostalgia lovers buy post cards and photos of strangers, how much more precious when we know the people in them!

COOKIE MONSTER'S BIRTHDAY

THIS is one happy Birthday Boy! We can hardly ever find our favorite brand of cookies and complain about it often. Our oldest daughter found all of Bill's favorites and delivered them in a gift bag the size of a tote! We had lots of fun with the family and wish Sweet William many more happy birthday's to come! Thanks for visiting the blog and sharing! The cake in the middle of the table will NOT get the greatest Cake award! I wasn't expecting company, can you tell? Ha!

LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST

GOOD MONDAY MORNING! The sun is shining in SC and from my window I can see Blue Birds, Cardinals, Chickadees and a host of other birds in my backyard. The little waterway is alive with life. Earlier I saw a Green Heron. They are so stealthy and quick, I missed a picture just by turning on the camera and he was gone!
Please pray for Amy, the niece of Sherry @ (http://countrywingsinphoenix.com This beautiful young girl is dying from cancer as I write. If we are too late in our efforts, pray for the family to have closure and for God to give them comfort in their hour of need. Blogging has brought me many friends and acquaintances. With their friendship also comes their joys, their hurts, and their hearts. Some of it is painful but the joy of their sites with brilliant colors, pictures and writings outweighs the sadness.
